Frank Van Zandt Meets Horrible Death at Fair Street Crossing in Atlanta
Atlanta, GA. - Decapitated by a switch engine, a flagman for the Southern railroad, met a tragic death at the Fair street crossing Friday morning. He was in the act of crossing the tracks, when a locomotive in charge of Engineer Moore struck him. Death was almost instantaneous.
The body was removed to the undertaking establishment of H.M. Patterson & Son, where Justice Edgar H. Orr, acting as coroner, held an inquest. The body was taken to Dames, Ga., for interment.
Mr. Van Zandt resided at 177 West Alexander street. He is survived by his father, H.G. Van Zandt, of Milledgeville, a brother, W.H. Van Zandt, of Atlanta, and three sisters, Mrs. B.R. Jarrell, of Round Oak, Ga.; Mrs. J.T. Glover, of Wayside, Ga., and Miss Julia Van Zandt, of Milledgeville.
