Billings, Yellowstone, Montana, USA |
Arthur A. Hug, age 84, of Billings, passed away July 25, 1999, at Eagle Cliff Manor.
Art was born Aug. 9, 1914, on the Huntley Project homestead to Emil and Elizabeth Hug. He grew up and attended school on the Huntley Project graduating in 1932.
He then traveled to California working in the Sacramento area for a year before returning home. In June of 1942 he met the lady he wanted to spend the rest of his life with and three weeks later on July 14, he married Alvina Gums. They were married 46 years until her death in 1988. Art and Alvina farmed on the Huntley Project until 1977 when they moved to Billings. In addition to being a very hard working farmer, he also worked at the Great Western Sugar factory from 1950 until 1978 as a warehouse foreman.
In 1980 Art and Alvina retired and moved to Harlowton so he could be close to fishing reservoirs, because Dad had a great passion for fishing. In 1996 Dad moved back to Billings. We will remember our Dad with a shovel over his shoulder wearing irrigation boots. If the weather, crops, and cattle allowed, he would trade in his irrigation boots for hip boots and we were off fishing the Stillwater River or Rock Creek. Dad was a very kind man, everyone liked Art Hug. He was a rare individual with exceptional character and he will be greatly missed.
Preceding him in death are his parents, wife and a sister, Lena Sorenson. Survivors include his two daughters and their spouses: June and Duane Equall of Huntley; Joanne and Jim Peabody of Billings; five grandchildren and their spouses: Tom Equall of Rudyard; Randy and Nancy Equall of Bozeman; Michael and Jacki Equall of Seattle; Jolene and Jim Gairrett of Nashville; Jason and Tammy Watts of Billings; four great-grandchildren: Sammy Keith Jackson Gairrett, Sara Joanne Gairrett, Erin Nicole Equall, Chase Alexander Equall; one sister: Irene Kembel of Worden. Cremation has taken place and at Dad's request, private graveside services will be Aug. 2 at 2 p.m. in section 7 of Mountview Cemetery.
