Irene E. Kembel, 85, of Billings, formerly of Worden, passed away Friday, Jan. 25, 2002, at St. Vincent Healthcare.
Irene was born on Feb 19, 1916, on the family homestead near Worden, the daughter of Emil and Elizabeth (Fricker) Hug. She was raised in the Worden area and attended Huntley Project High School, graduating in 1933. Irene worked for several years at the Holden Drug store in Worden and in the lunch room at the Huntley Project School.
Irene enjoyed playing cards, doing crossword puzzles, reading and doing volunteer work at the Pompeys Pillar Assn., Huntley Project Museum, Sunnyside Library, Worden Senior Citizens and RSVP.
She moved to West Park Village in Billings in May of 2000 and continued her volunteering in the gift shop and helping other residents.
On Jan. 20, 1964, Irene married Adam Kembel in Billings and he preceded her in death in 1980.
Irene was a member of the Bethlehem Congregational Church in Worden and the Ameca Rebekah Lodge No. 126 in Worden.
Survivors include her daughter, Phyllis Kostelecky of Billings; step-children, Karen Dawson of Billings and Sandra Bacon of British Columbia, Canada; daughter-in-law, Delores Kembel; three grandchildren, five step-grandchildren, four step-great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides her husband, Irene was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, a brother and a step-son, Ron Kembel.
Memorial service will be 2 p.m.. Wednesday, Jan. 30, at the Bethlehem Congregational Church. Visitation will be from 8 a.m. Monday until 5 p.m. Tuesday. Cremation will follow and interment of her ashes will be at Pleasantview Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Bethlehem Congregational Church, Worden, MT. |
