      Mrs. Maria Catherine Baum, 66, wife of John William Baum, 1738 south West Temple street, died at the home of her son, Claud Baum, 140 west Burton avenue, yesterday at 10:30 a.m.; of complications following a paralytic stroke.

      Mrs. Baum was born in Heber City Jan. 23, 1868, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Hicken. She had resided in Salt Lake City 13 years. She was an active member of the L. D. S. Church, having served as an officer of the Primary association and the Relief society of the Heber City Second ward and the Third ward in Salt Lake City.

      Surviving are her husband, two sons, Claud and Arnold Dean Baum: a daughter, Mrs. LaPreal Ames of Salt Lake City; four brothers, Thomas Hicken of Canada, John William and David Hicken of Heber City and C. W. Hicken of Salt Lake City; a sister, Mrs. Ruth Dickson of Heber City, and five grandchildren.

      Brief funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. at the Kingdon & Lees mortuary, 255 Second East street. The body will then be taken to Heber City, whose additional services will be conducted Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. in the L. D. S. tabernacle. Burial will take place in the Heber City cemetery.

      Friends may call at the Kingdon & Lees mortuary Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday morning prior to services. Friends also may call at the home of Mrs. Dickson at Heber City from 12 noon until 2 p.m. [6]
