Sarah Sellers Bittaker Obituary
21 Jun 1909, Death of Sarah Sellers Bittaker: "Hold Funeral of Woman Who Succumbed From Intense Heat". The funeral of Mrs. Sarah Bittaker, 52, of 19 Norton St, who died suddenly Monday afternoon, will be held at Clinton Thursday at 2:30 P.M.
As Mrs. Bittaker hung the last piece of washing on the line she felt faint and staggered into the house. In a short time she was dead. Her youngest son, Ernest, aged 14, who had been helping her with the family washing, hastened to the office of Dr Stauffer. Shortly after the physician's arrival Mrs. Bittaker passed away.
Monday was the first real day of summer and the intense heat together with neuralgia of the heart with which she had been affected for some time, brought about her death.
Although she had not been feeling in the best of health for some time, she appeared in good spirits Monday morning and started cheerfully to work on the family washing. Earnest, the youngest son, assisted her, carrying the water and lifting the tubs.
Mrs. Bittaker has been a resident of Akron but one month, having moved here from Clinton. She was a widow, her husband, Philip Bittaker having died 11 years ago. She was the mother of 11 children, five of whom reside at home.
The children are: Mrs. Al Simmons and Jacob, Samuel, Thomas, Catheryn, Ruth and Earnest Bittaker of Akron; Jos. Bittaker of Georgia; Mrs. Anna Frase and David Bittaker of Barberton; John Bittaker of Clinton. The body will be sent to Clinton for burial. (21 Jun 1909 was a Monday (washday). Date of death was 21st not 22nd as on Death Certificate. |
